Spice up your Containers with ‘Cool Season Superstars’

Have the containers you planted in June, started to look a bit tired these last few weeks? We could all use a little inspiration this time of year. With that in mind, we’ve put together a list of six ‘Cool Season Superstars‘ that will carry your planters from autumn into the winter.

Heuchera: Evergreen foliage that comes in a rainbow of colors. (Heuchera ‘Marmalade’ pictured here). What’s not to love when it comes to filling your planters?

Coprosma: ‘Evening Glow’ pictured above is one spicy shrub. When you see its luminous foliage at dusk, you’ll agree that it’s aptly named.

Acorus: This is a little workhorse of a grass. Acorus gramineus ‘Ogon’ stays looking fresh through the winter and adds a lime-colored kick to your planters.

Heather: Blooming or not, their spiky form adds textural interest to any planter. (Calluna vulgaris ‘Red Star’ pictured here)

Euphorbia: These evergreen beauties are champions throughout the winter when other shrubby perennials start to look worn. Pair ‘Ascot Rainbow’ (pictured above) with a mauve winter viola and you’ve got a winning combo.

Carex: Its thin, strappy leaves are an attractive accent to any broad-leaved perennials you might be planting. But don’t take our word for it, browse our gallery of inspiration below.

Don’t you love how the bright green frills of heuchera contrast here with the dark straps of Mondo grass?
